Head Coach
Nick Cunningham enters his third season leading MPC’s Cross Country and Track and
Field programs. Cunningham comes to MPC after splitting his time as the Head Track
and Field and Assistant Football Coach at Carmel High School, Assistant Development
Coach for Team USA Bobsled and Skeleton, while also helping the CSU Monterey Bay Track
and Field Team as a Volunteer Assistant Coach.
In his three seasons at Carmel High School, Coach Cunningham led the team to 4 new school records and the 2019 Pacific Coast Athletic League (PCAL) Mission Division Girl’s Track and Field Championship. His California State Meet Qualifiers include Lauren Pritchard- High Jump (2019- 27th Place; 2021- 2nd Place), Sarah Graessley- Pole Vault (2021- 5th Place), and the Boy’s 4x100m Relay Team consisting of Nick Sloan, Benicio Cristofalo, Lavar Edwards, and Rashaan Ward (2019- 21st Place).
As Team USA’s Bobsled and Skeleton Assistant Development Coach, Coach Cunningham developed incoming athletes on the North America’s Cup Tour. In 2021, Coach Cunningham was awarded the opportunity to coach the US National Team where he led 3-time Olympic medalist Kaillie Humphries and Olympic Hurdler, Lolo Jones on to win the World Championship in Altenberg, Germany.
Cunningham competed for Team USA’s Bobsled Team from 2008-2018. His career highlights include 3 Olympic Games appearances (2010, 2014, and 2018), 6 World Championship appearances, as well as being a 9-time World Cup Medalist and the 2017 US National Champion.
He holds a Master’s Degree from Ohio University in Recreation and Sports Sciences with a concentration in Athletic Coaching Education, a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Boise State University where he was an All-Conference Sprinter on the track and field team and his Associates Degree from Monterey Peninsula College where he was a member of the 2005 Lobo football team. The 2003 Monterey High School graduate was a 3-time Track and Field California State Meet qualifier in the 100m (2003) and 200m (2002, 2003) and an All-League Defensive Back on the Toreador football team.
Coach Cunningham brings decades worth of professional athletic experience as well as the understanding of collegiate athletic performance and is thrilled to be a part of the Lobo family.
